Parcels
Eric Hergenreder
I’m a photographer, writer, and historian based on Detroit’s east side. For the last decade, I have been documenting and researching Detroit, focusing on the built environment in our neighborhoods and using photography and archival research to connect present-day landscapes with their history.
Bear Lobos
"Rooted in the vibrant landscape of Southwest Detroit, my work is a collision of hip-hop rhythm, Mexican heritage, and the raw energy of graffiti. I operate at the intersection of classical precision and self-taught grit, using my formal training to anchor the fluid, high-octane aesthetics of the street. Through bold palettes and cultural iconography, I weave a personal narrative that bridges the gap between the gallery wall and the urban alley. My pieces often integrate Michigan’s native ecosystems, exploring how identity and environment inform one another. Ultimately, my art is an invitation to witness a world where tradition and subculture coexist, creating a dynamic visual experience for everyone from the neighborhood to the boardroom."
Tom Livo
I paint illusionist images from my life and surroundings. I investigate issues of identity and experience, time and place. I see traditional painting as an ever valid practice of documenting history coupled with emotion. My paintings celebrate the epic nature of the commonplace. My latest works explore areas surrounding Detroit’s working class neighborhoods. Buildings along the way have unique character and history. So many worn with the moods of atmosphere, light, and the passage time. The town of Del Reyis rich with the vision of an American dream alongside its apparent decay. A kind of boulevard of dreams in various states of holding on like us, like me. These are visual metaphors presenting themselves for me to describe as part my life experience. These paintings are homages to the fragile nature of the not-so-distant past. They are my tributes to beauty .
Livo studied painting at the College for Creative Studies from 1981-1987 under Aris Katroulis and Richard Jerzy. He was awarded independent study in the New York Studio Program from CCS in 1986. Tom has exhibited at The Kresge Foundation , The Scarab Club, Image Works, Gallery Camille, Playground,Annex Gallery at 333 Midland and Hatch Galleries. His work is in the collection of the Ford Motor Company , and many private collections. He currently maintains apainting studio in Hamtramk and is part of the Teal Door Artist Collective.
Sintex
Detroit-based graffiti artist Sintex, a 20+ year veteran known as a "Detroit Ambassador," focuses on photorealistic portraits of Native Americans, Indigenous people, and cultural icons, blending them with complex graffiti lettering. His work, often in blighted areas, explores contemporary Black life and social justice, aiming to make art that is both beautiful and challenging.
Pinetop
Pinetop is a self-taught artist working in site-specific found object sculpture, video installation and photography.
In the ongoing Pyramid Project, Pinetop has created dozens of monuments across Detroit and other rust belt cities. Built solo in the beginning years, and later with the aid of volunteer assistants, these works are equal parts guerilla street art and ecological message.
Use tires can take over 80 years to decompose in a landfill. To properly recycle them can cost up to $4 per tire. This rubber has driven the Motor City. Hundreds of thousands of miles of abrasion have left the souls of these objects on our freeways and back roads. Used up, nothing left to give, they are discarded…stashed in the underbrush of vacant lots, hidden in the hallways of abandoned buildings.
This project draws these used husks back to the light. It creates an unexpected encounter for those who visit the forgotten places.
